Just like you wouldn't talk to a stranger on the street, you should be careful online. Someone who seems friendly in a game or chat might not be who they say they are.

Never tell a stranger online:

Your full name

Your home address

Your school name

Your phone number

Passwords or PINs

Supporting Your Primary School Child Online

Keep devices in shared family spaces - not in bedrooms. This naturally limits risky behaviour.

Have regular, open conversations about what your child does online without making them feel guilty.

Set up parental controls and safe-search settings on all devices and browsers your child uses.

Know which apps and games your child uses. Download them yourself and explore them together.

Create a family internet agreement - rules you set together that everyone agrees to follow.

Check in on who your child is communicating with. Explain this is about safety, not a lack of trust.
